What is the value of your music?

First off, value is subjective even withstanding the setting of the market price, but we can ask why think about the value at all? Let’s use my favorite example sandwich shop. If someone opens a sandwich shop, one would be opening it to be of service to others in most cases. That means for the sandwich shop owner to sell sandwiches, one would have to provide value to person offering to exchange whatever it is that agreed upon; dollars for example, but for music it includes admiration, gifts, food/drinks, and plenty more.

You have to decide what your music is worth to you first often but even before that you decide how much of your time you are willing to trade to make music. Once you do that, you can start to see how your music is valuable to you. Is it the making of music that you find valuable or is it in the mixing and editing or remixing or what about performing at shows with lots of people around you vibing off that energy? It is up to you to decide what your music is worth to you so that you can trade your performance or stream or some merch to go with a VR video experience short film to people, your fans, your supporters, and just everybody who may want to trade with you something they have. To me, finding a good trade in music is where I get those magic feeling moments where everything is just perfect. Where ya float with the surreal power of music. And being a life-long musician, I live for the times that I can share what I do and make people around me find value in what I do. It’s a damn good feeling.

So once you figure that out, it’s up to you to decide how you want to trade. Do you want to trade time for money? Do you want to play for drinks or exposure (to be clear, these are valid and often completely fair)? If you aren’t getting what you want for what you have, shoot me a message and we can look at figuring it out.

Alright, ’til next time.
